Thursday, 6 May is International No Diet Day, a celebration of body acceptance and body shape diversity. The day is also dedicated to raising awareness of the dangers of restrictive diets and its symbol is a blue ribbon.

International No Diet Day originated in 1992 when British woman, Mary Evans Young began a campaign against the diet industry. Young used the media attention she received in the United Kingdom to raise awareness about anorexia nervosa and other eating disorders and encouraged television audiences to join her in celebrating the first International No Diet Day (INDD) on May 6.

Since 1992 the INDD movement has spread to other countries around the globe including: USA, Australia, New Zealand, India, Israel and Denmark.

To celebrate International No Diet Day, the Butterfly Foundation will be hosting a morning tea in Sydney on Thursday, 6th May 2010.

The Butterfly Foundation can also help you plan and host your own morning or afternoon tea to celebrate International No Diet Day and to help raise funds to continue the work of supporting people with eating disorders. For more information visit the website www.thebutterflyfoundation.org.au

This year Victorians are being encouraged by Eating Disorders Victoria (EDV), to ditch restrictive diets and embrace the practice of Mindful Eating, a simple‐to‐learn life skill which can lead to a much healthier and enjoyable relationship with food.

EDV will host a Mindful Eating awareness evening at Melbourne Town Hall on 6th May commencing at 6.30pm. For more information visit the Eating Disorders Victoria website at www.eatingdisorders.org.au.

The Strathpine Fab&Fat@40 support group are doing a “fast food crawl” to celebrate. Meeting at Maccas Strathpine at 11am and then waddling over to HJ’s and then on to KFC. For those who can handle the pace we will be finishing off at the Cheescake Shop for desert! Hope to see you there.

Mary herself has quite alot of junk in the trunk, I think the purpose of all this is her jealousy against tight good looking women 😀

How inappropriate that Channel 7 on Australian TV should broadcast a “Best Diet” story this evening on Today Tonight, on “International No Diet Day”.
