Curves Partners with Olivia in the Fight Against Breast Cancer

The founders of Curves, Gary and Diane Heavin have teamed up with Olivia Newton-John to distribute 1 million units of the Olivia Aid, a heart-shaped breast self-exam aid that assists women to examine their breasts correctly for any changes.

Olivia Newton-John credits her own breast self-exam as the first step to her eventual diagnosis of breast cancer. Now, 16 years later she has become a passionate advocate in creating awareness for early detection and encouraging women to take a more active role in their breast health.

“That I am fine today and stronger than before, I credit to early detection,” said Olivia. “Being a breast cancer ‘thriver,’ I know that early detection is key to good breast health. My wish is that all women age 20 and above perform monthly breast self-examinations.”

Back in April of this year, Diane Heavin joined her friend Olivia Newton-John on the Great Walk to Beijing to raise funding for the new Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre in Melbourne.  With the support of the Curves community, Diane was able to raise a considerable amount of money for the cause during the 3 week journey.  So when Diane Heavin heard about the Olivia Aid, she was determined to do what she could to distribute the breast self-exam device to as many women as possible. “No other cause has united the Curves community like the fight against cancer—and specifically, breast cancer,” said Diane Heavin.

During her most recent visit to Australia, Diane Heavin told Australian Women Online, “In our business we are moving women away from disease and illness, and teaching them healthy habits – and this is one other thing we want to start teaching our ladies in our gym, to practice good breast health. So our goal this October is to put an Olivia Aid in the hands of one million women.”
