Hollywood’s hottest stars are flocking to the red carpet this year, but not without their favourite celebrity stylist David Babaii standing in the wings. Last weekend David Babaii created two completely different looks on Angelina Jolie at the 62nd Directors Guild Awards on Saturday night and Nicole Kidman at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night. Babaii gives us his expert advice on how to achieve these styles at home.
Angelina Jolie at the Directors Guild Awards of America
Despite rumors that they have split, Hollywood’s most talked about couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt attended the Directors Guild Awards on 30th January in California, with Jolie looking the vision of beauty with her glossy ringlets (pictured).
To begin, David Babaii used David Babaii for WildAid Hair Polish throughout her entire head. This provides control and additional shine to the hair. After drying with a medium round brush and rounding the ends, he divided the hair into 4 sections: top, sides and back leaving the nape area free. It is imperative to take the extra effort in sectioning prior to styling so you have total control at all times. Read more
Get the Look: Nicole Kidman’s Side-swept Chignon at the Golden Globes

Always styled to perfection, Nicole Kidman (pictured) recently sauntered down the red carpet at the 67th Golden Globes Awards. With the aim of creating a natural and effortless look, celebrity hair stylist David Babaii explains how he crafted Kidman’s side-swept, loosely knotted bun with the use of just one product.
David’s tips on how to recreate Nicole’s look at home:
To create Nicole’s polishes yet tousled look, the first thing you will need to do is blow dry your hair with a round brush. After hair is dry, create a side part and sweep gently over the ear and secure with bobby pins. Brush remaining hair back and smooth into an off centre ponytail. Take sections from underneath the pony tail and wrap loosely under and secure with pins allowing the ends to be exposed. Continue pinning 1” sections which are twirled and wrapped into a modern chignon. Do not comb or smooth any of the sections so you can create a soft natural look. Finally, finish with Mise en Plis Light Hold Styling Spray to tame any fly-a-ways. Read more
Get the Look: Shapewear a big hit at American Music Awards
November 26, 2009 by Deborah Robinson · Comments Off
Shapewear as Outerwear was big on stage at this year’s American Music Awards with Fergie, J Lo and Carrie Underwood giving the look their own special twist while Lady Gaga (pictured) took the fashion she pioneered to a new level.
The style, first championed by daring fashionista Lady Gaga, is now regularly seen on starlets like Lily Allen who favours big knickers instead of pants, Rhianna who favours the bodysuit and tailored blazer and Scarlett Johanson who pairs her bodysuit with 1940s style pencil skirts.
Those who are keen to be ahead of the trend here in Australia, will be delighted to know that Dr Rey’s new range of diamond lace shapewear is now available down under. Read more
Get the Look: Nicole Kidman’s loose waves at the 2009 Country Music Awards

Australian beauty Nicole Kidman sauntered down the red carpet with hubby Keith Urban last week at the Country Music Awards with a head full of flowing curls. Our favourite celebrity hair stylist David Babaii spills his styling secrets, giving step by step instructions on how to re-create this look at home.
To get started, I had Nicole shampoo and condition her hair with David Babaii for WildAid Amplifying Shampoo and Conditioner for volume. Plus, remember my motto: rinse, rinse rinse so you have a clean canvas. This is a must for achieving a “good hair day”!
Next, I sprayed her entire head with David Babaii for WildAid Bohemian Beach Spray and scrunched the product into her hair. This gives just the right amount of texture and movement. Read more
Book Review: Who Do You Want to Be Today?
October 26, 2009 by Tania McCartney · Comments Off
I have a secret. I want to be Trinny Woodall. I have a girl crush, yes I do – and it’s Trinny. Love her style, love her voice, love her elegance, frankness, energy and candour. Coupled with the luscious Susannah Constantine, this illustrious, fashion-busting couple have done it again – teaching ‘real’ women how to flaunt their fabulousness.
Who Do You Want to Be Today: Be Inspired to Dress Differently is a neat little tome that calls on us to take a peek outside our fashion comfort zones. For those of us on the fast (but exciting!) train to ‘middle age’ – it’s so easy to become complacent about what compromises our true style or become fixated on a style we can hide behind… one that perhaps doesn’t allow us to shine.
Of course, first impressions are important – not only for how people see us, but for how we express who we really are, and most of us are multi-faceted chameleons. While we probably understand our own style type – smart casual, urban, glamourpuss, tizzy – there is certainly an androgyne, ice queen or gamine in all of us somewhere. So why can’t we reflect more than one style?
Get the Angelina Jolie Look
Our favourite celebrity hairdresser David Babaii was responsible for creating Angelina Jolie’s naturally tousled look at the premiere of “Inglorious Basterds” this week. David says that her sleek and stylishly simple long tresses against a dress like that was a perfect match!
First, David applied Hair Polish to her entire mane followed by spraying Volcanic Ash Root Amplifier to the root area for lift and volume. Next, he parted hair into 3 sections (This is David’s “key” signature tip). Beginning at the nape area, he used his blow dryer with the nozzle attachment for direct styling. To achieve her look, David blow dried her hair using a large round brush to smooth tresses straight and shiny. When done drying the entire head, he took large sections and wrapped hair around the same round brush. With the blow dryer and nozzle in hand, blow an additional blast of hot air for ten seconds and then hit the cool button for a burst of cool air: this sets the shape. Carefully release the section from the brush and continue until you have completed the whole head. To finish, spray Mise en Plis Light Styling Spray.

Get the Scarlett Johansson Look
August 14, 2009 by admin · Comments Off
Celebrity hairstylist David Babaii worked his magic on the glorious Scarlett Johansson’s new lighter-toned strawberry blonde hairstyle last month, with two completely different trademark looks at the Opening Night of LA Shorts Fest 2009 and Comic Con 2009. David spills his secrets to Australia, giving step by step instructions on how to re-create these looks.
Scarlett at Comic-Con 2009
To achieve this curly, wavy, sexy look for Scarlett Johansson’s appearance at Comic-Con 2009, celebrity hairstylist David Babaii applied his Amplifying Whipped Mousse from roots to ends. This gives just the right amount of volume and hold to her strawberry blonde hair.
Next, he rough dried her tresses by using his hands, moving the hair in various directions. Once dry, he sectioned her hair into 3 different parts: top, sides and back leaving the nape area free. This is one of David’s most important styling tips, since you need to have constant control over the hair at all times.
To create his famous wavy curls, he used his ceramic curling iron. To style, he took small “V” shaped strands and wrapped them around the inside of the barrel. Then, David allowed each curl to fall naturally. Through selected strands, he ran his fingers up the partially curled strand to achieve added volume. For additional lift at the scalp area, he sprayed Volcanic Ash Root Amplifier on his finger tips and applied to the root area by roughly massaging into the area. This adds added fullness and texture. To complete, he sprayed Mise en Plis Light Styling Spray. Read more
Bruno is right men should get rid of their hair say Aussie Women
July 2, 2009 by admin · Comments Off
The controversial gay fashionista Bruno (pictured), is creating such a hype around town from flirting with our ‘Ruddy’, to looking down Rove’s pants and checking out the abundance of hair that Rove has ‘down there’! New research revealed today by Australia’s Hair Removal experts, Nad’s, found 9 in 10 women find hairy men less attractive! So whether you like to admit it, Bruno is right, men should get rid of their hair!
It‟s official, Aussie women find excess body hair a turnoff. So you would think the nation‟s females would practice what they preach? Think again! The survey also revealed nearly two thirds of women let their own body hair grow wild in winter.
The research carried out by Nad‟s, asked 2,400 Australian men and women to reveal all about their hairy habits and uncovered some fascinating findings. Out of the 89 per cent of women that find excess body hair a turnoff, 60 per cent cited a hairy back as the biggest no no, with hairy noses and ears coming in a close second (49 per cent). This was followed by a bushy beer belly with 43 per cent of the votes – Aussie men better make that date at the gym! Read more
