Hollywood’s hottest stars are flocking to the red carpet this year, but not without their favourite celebrity stylist David Babaii standing in the wings. Last weekend David Babaii created two completely different looks on Angelina Jolie at the 62nd Directors Guild Awards on Saturday night and Nicole Kidman at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night. Babaii gives us his expert advice on how to achieve these styles at home.
Angelina Jolie at the Directors Guild Awards of America
Despite rumors that they have split, Hollywood’s most talked about couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt attended the Directors Guild Awards on 30th January in California, with Jolie looking the vision of beauty with her glossy ringlets (pictured).
To begin, David Babaii used David Babaii for WildAid Hair Polish throughout her entire head. This provides control and additional shine to the hair. After drying with a medium round brush and rounding the ends, he divided the hair into 4 sections: top, sides and back leaving the nape area free. It is imperative to take the extra effort in sectioning prior to styling so you have total control at all times. Read more
Ethical Aussie Fashion from High in the Himalayas

The wonderful thing about the internet is that you can stumble headlong into incredible people doing fascinating and even life-changing things any day of the week. Stumbling over and ‘finding’ wondrous folk is so probable nowadays, it’s as common as picking up a litre of milk from the corner shop.
It’s not likely I would have found my latest inspiring find at the corner shop but rather the top of the world – in a teensy village called Dharamsala, at the foot of the Himalayas in northern India, the home of the Dalai Lama and the exiled Tibetan government. A place you would usually need a donkey and ten days’ rations to find anything. Read more
Get the Look: Nicole Kidman’s Side-swept Chignon at the Golden Globes
January 27, 2010 by Hair Styling with David Babaii · Leave a Comment
Always styled to perfection, Nicole Kidman (pictured) recently sauntered down the red carpet at the 67th Golden Globes Awards. With the aim of creating a natural and effortless look, celebrity hair stylist David Babaii explains how he crafted Kidman’s side-swept, loosely knotted bun with the use of just one product.
David’s tips on how to recreate Nicole’s look at home:
To create Nicole’s polishes yet tousled look, the first thing you will need to do is blow dry your hair with a round brush. After hair is dry, create a side part and sweep gently over the ear and secure with bobby pins. Brush remaining hair back and smooth into an off centre ponytail. Take sections from underneath the pony tail and wrap loosely under and secure with pins allowing the ends to be exposed. Continue pinning 1” sections which are twirled and wrapped into a modern chignon. Do not comb or smooth any of the sections so you can create a soft natural look. Finally, finish with Mise en Plis Light Hold Styling Spray to tame any fly-a-ways. Read more

Book Review: How to be a Hepburn in a Hilton World
December 1, 2009 by Tania McCartney · Comments Off
Working as a music publicist in the US, author Jordan Christy has probably witnessed an endless parade of floozy fashion built into the mega marketing machine of music video. Indeed, she could well have had a gut full of tizz, spangles, bling, pimped ensembles and rock chick glam, and if this is sole the reason behind her newly released and stylish little LBD tome, then I, for one, will not be raising my pierced eyebrow in surprise.
Chic, neat and very pretty, this book foists a promising subtitle unto the mascara-ed eyeballs of many a dedicated fashionista – The Art of Living with Style, Class and Grace. But in a world driven by appalling starlets unable to keep their miniskirts below the bikini line, is it possible to reignite the era of the self-contained, graceful and supremely stylish woman?
As the author herself admits, when it comes down to it, men still want to take home Audrey not Paris. They want women of substance and self-respect – someone who knows herself and strives for a meaningful life, not a be-thonged plastic toss-away who can’t string two words together unless her esophagus has been well oiled with a bucket of pink cocktails. Get the Look: Shapewear a big hit at American Music Awards
November 26, 2009 by Deborah Robinson · Comments Off
Shapewear as Outerwear was big on stage at this year’s American Music Awards with Fergie, J Lo and Carrie Underwood giving the look their own special twist while Lady Gaga (pictured) took the fashion she pioneered to a new level.
The style, first championed by daring fashionista Lady Gaga, is now regularly seen on starlets like Lily Allen who favours big knickers instead of pants, Rhianna who favours the bodysuit and tailored blazer and Scarlett Johanson who pairs her bodysuit with 1940s style pencil skirts.
Those who are keen to be ahead of the trend here in Australia, will be delighted to know that Dr Rey’s new range of diamond lace shapewear is now available down under. Read more
Get the Look: Nicole Kidman’s loose waves at the 2009 Country Music Awards

Australian beauty Nicole Kidman sauntered down the red carpet with hubby Keith Urban last week at the Country Music Awards with a head full of flowing curls. Our favourite celebrity hair stylist David Babaii spills his styling secrets, giving step by step instructions on how to re-create this look at home.
To get started, I had Nicole shampoo and condition her hair with David Babaii for WildAid Amplifying Shampoo and Conditioner for volume. Plus, remember my motto: rinse, rinse rinse so you have a clean canvas. This is a must for achieving a “good hair day”!
Next, I sprayed her entire head with David Babaii for WildAid Bohemian Beach Spray and scrunched the product into her hair. This gives just the right amount of texture and movement. Read more

Book Review: Who Do You Want to Be Today?
October 26, 2009 by Tania McCartney · Comments Off
I have a secret. I want to be Trinny Woodall. I have a girl crush, yes I do – and it’s Trinny. Love her style, love her voice, love her elegance, frankness, energy and candour. Coupled with the luscious Susannah Constantine, this illustrious, fashion-busting couple have done it again – teaching ‘real’ women how to flaunt their fabulousness.
Who Do You Want to Be Today: Be Inspired to Dress Differently is a neat little tome that calls on us to take a peek outside our fashion comfort zones. For those of us on the fast (but exciting!) train to ‘middle age’ – it’s so easy to become complacent about what compromises our true style or become fixated on a style we can hide behind… one that perhaps doesn’t allow us to shine.
Of course, first impressions are important – not only for how people see us, but for how we express who we really are, and most of us are multi-faceted chameleons. While we probably understand our own style type – smart casual, urban, glamourpuss, tizzy – there is certainly an androgyne, ice queen or gamine in all of us somewhere. So why can’t we reflect more than one style?
