Aussie entertainers have returned from an eight day tour of Dili and remote areas of Timor-Leste. Among those entertaining Australian troops were Krystal Forscutt (pictured) from Big Brother, country music star Paul Costal, comedian Fred Lang, and all female punk rock group Legless.
In a statement released to the media today a spokesperson from the Department of Defence said, “For the entertainers it was a rare opportunity to gain an insight into the lives of our troops deployed overseas.”
Krystal Forscutt from Big Brother fame was not only MC for the eight day tour, but performed three duets with Paul Costa at each concert. “I now have a far better understanding of their jobs and responsibilities and also a lot more appreciation. It was great to put a smile on their faces,” she Krystal.
Paul Costa said it was an unforgettable experience. “The response from the troops was fantastic. I was blown away by how friendly and appreciative they were of us coming over here,” he said.
It was comedian Fred Lang’s second tour to Timor-Leste and his admiration of our troops has only grown. He said during each performance, “They do a job I can’t do.”
The girls of “Legless” all agreed that the trip was one they will never forget. The band’s drummer, the bride Imaj, said it was incredible to meet the troops. “To see what they go through on a daily basis and how hard they work, it was such an eye opener,” she said.
The tour is part of series of concert tours organised by the Department of Defence to entertain troops of Operation Astute, the Australian Government’s response to a request from the Government of Timor-Leste to assist in restoring peace to their country.
