60 Plus: internet dating and tamper proof packaging

Our resident baby boomer, Barbara-Louisa Walker chats about the trials and tribulations of getting older.

Continuing on from last month…Finding love at 60, is it impossible?

I have over the last weeks interacted with several ‘possibilities’ online. The internet dating site allows this without you having to reveal who you really are or your email address. But the outcome girls has not been good?

What I have found is that men are keen to “walk hand in hand, walking at sunset on the beach” and they also seem to be captivated by the idea of camping and bush walking. Not sure why as the whole idea is not what most women want and certainly not me. I want 5 star dining, wine at a lovely bar and walks along the malls. The beach is fine as long as its not pouring or cooking weather!

Men have, I believe come to realise that in their marriages they did not do any of this and are now trying to make it up! Can they?

I had coffee with one of the men lets call him BOB. Well Bob told me all about his breakup, for which he bore no responsibility. He also told me he needs to meet his “soulmate” and even though he has grown children he’s not against having more at 64! Needless to say we are not an item!

I’ve looked for other ways to meet eligible batchelors and some would have us believe that if you wander the supermarket aisles you can find your soul mate. Well I tried that and all I found was a great buy on tuna fish.

Then there’s the laundromat – sitting watching a guy put all the coloureds and whites together doesn’t bring out thoughts of lust and wild times for me.

As I said last month, there are friends who will “match” you up but we’ll say no more about that.

A male friend has just emailed me to say he’s met a woman from the next street while walking on the beach at 6am 3 weeks ago and they are now planning a wedding in Bali this month! They are both in their 60s. I can be nasty and say it is too soon – is it desperation? I think anyone who rushes in that quick is afraid, but good luck to them.

On completely unrelated topic. Do other readers find it difficult to open items? I almost threw myself off the roof last night trying to open a CD. I screamed. I swore and even pressured God. I did not want to use a knife but in the end I had to.

The packaging on items today is dam difficult and almost impossible.

My beaut new toothbrush will last a long time because I can’t get it out of the box! The milk cartons have two openings one has to get through and then the milk spills everywhere and then there’s medication. I take a tablet for the thyroid which comes in a bottle I have no chance of opening. Push down and turn it says. Well with mine it’s push down, turn and throw! Having spent my working life in pharmacy I can tell you opening bottles was never this hard. We Baby Boomers have movement difficulties and maybe it’s a ploy to drive us all crazy.

Take care until next time :)
